DIY Prada skirt in progress

 

I'm in love with the Prada relief-yellow-rose print skirt so I gave it a first try ;)

First I dyed a skirt in a very soft pink, then I painted "impressionistic" roses (I tried to capture loosely the silhouette) with textile dye! (mixing the dye with water got the best results!) and after it I went for the yellow roses, using heavy body acrylic paint that I mixed with a textile medium for screen-printing. With lots of effort I managed to get the paint in a syringe-like tube so I could draw the roses out of loose hand.. clearly some roses look better then others haha :)the roses took about 1 week to dry!

I like the effect but what I really want are more puffy-foam-ey roses so I'm looking for another medium! I'm pretty sure I once worked with a puffy-foam paint (It looked very synthetic) for screen-printing but I have no-idea yet where to find it.. I think I might visit the printing-workplace at my old art-school to ask! (I will keep you updated!)

3 Weekend Worthy things To Do {for your Home}

1) Getting Spring Ready

One thing I always do when I see editorials I really like is to look up the stylists, interior stylists and photographers online, most stylists have blogs, websites and/or online portfolio's where you can see more of what you loved about them in the first place! Paulina Arcklin is one of those Stylists I really like! I love to see her behind the scenes photos and love her eye for detail!

So to get to the point: Getting Spring ready by adding Green! Plants, flowers and green interior details! Plus add some Spring texture in Fabrics by using cotton and Linen! 

Most fun to do, by far, is a Seasonal make-over by painting old furniture, wooden crates and frames! and totally a Spring thing to do because you want the weather to allow you to open the windows to get rid of the smell! If not, there are always Easter Eggs that will need some color too of course!

btw. How delicious do these Paint-Tins look as color accent? And I bet we can give them a little job on their own like storing Pencils in them!

  

2) Using Something as Something else

The best thing ever!

Take one object (like a vintage suitcase) and use it as something else: bedside table, pet-bed, chair, storage for books, flower pot (why not?) or you can start packing for a weekend get-a-way of course :)It's totally perfect for the weekend because here it's actually important that you don't think rational!

the suitcase is of course just an example but what about an upside-down clothing hanger for your jewelry or this DIY bedside table? Or go totally cute with a diy tea-cup candle!

3) Storage? Why? Books, Magazines and Shoes

Why bother storaging magazines, books and shoes, there is no space left anyway and they actually look good when placed right! Plus you don't have to buy new books, magazines and shoes while still getting that same exiting feeling when they are re-organized and placed nicely on a shelf!

Top 10 Fashion Blogger DIY's

Today's Top 10 is all about DIY's! I will give you my favorite 10 DIY bloggers and 2 DIY trends that I just had to include in this post as well.

I was thinking a long time about how to best explain the reasoning behind my favorite 10 DIY bloggers (too bad I couldn't find a DIY for that) I came to the following;

When you see life through the right pair of glasses, your average Hardware Store will become your Tiffanies&Co. 
(this kind of references to a certain blogger in my top 10 of course)(hmm sounds kind of cheesy, doesn't it?)

Glitter Shoes!

Ever since seeing the Miu Miu's, sparkles have been on my mind!
Glitter on the heels, glitter on the back of the shoe, the whole shoe glittered.. It's not only a great DIY for this season it's actually a lot of fun doing!

STUD EVERYTHING!

Yes, this keeps being on my mind! Stud, studs, studding..

I still want a pair of studded converse, boots, jeans and leather jacket, just about everything. 

I did bought a bunch of studs 2 years ago and failed miserably, the studs kept falling out! So best is to stick with the pro's on this one like Park&Cube here (ahhh she uses a knife and a ruler to bend the darn things!) and ps. I made this (for refinery29) here (ahhh heavy duty tools as well!)

Maria's blog is crucial for my DIY list! Most of her creative work are her own designs and art works and thus not really diy's and the (real) diy's go often without a tutorial and are sometimes made after other bloggers tutorials (the fringed shoulder pad jacket and draped skirt are via anywho.dk) BUT she's massive inspiration and I'm a very big fan of her designs, the reason her blog is crucial for my list is the fact that when she does a simple diy she thinks outside of the box and translates it in perfect choices of fabrics, colors and placements giving a very own and updated look to a well-known concept!!
