Ranbir-Deepika's Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani releases on Mar 29

Dharma Productions’ upcoming movie ‘Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani’ has found its release date.

The film was scheduled to release in the first month of the year 2013. But it will now release on March 29, 2013.

Filmmaker Karan Johar tweeted: “Our RANBIR-DEEPIKA film titled YEH JAWAANI HAI DEEWANI directed by AYAN MUKERJI will now release MARCH 29th, 2013...”

Apart from the talked about couple Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, this movie is starring actors like Kalki Koechlin and Aditya Roy Kapur.

The movie is directed by Ayan Mukherji and this is his second venture with Dharma Productions’ and Ranbir Kapoor after his directorial debut with ‘Wake Up Sid’.

The movie is Ranbir and Deepika’s second on-screen venture but however their first Dharma film together.

In addition, a new face Evelyn Sharma will also be a part of this movie.

The movie has been shot in exotic locations till date such as Turkey, Udaipur and Rajasthan.

Deepika keen on women centric films

Deepika Padukone, who would like to work in women-centric films, says that her journey towards such films has already begun with "Cocktail", which is releasing Friday.

"I would like to do women-centric movies. In fact, for me I feel Veronica (her character in 'Cocktail') is that. I think, for me, the journey has already begun, " she told.

Directed by Homi Adajania, the film also stars Saif Ali Khan and debutant Diana Penty.

Deepika says her teaming up with Saif again after "Love Aaj Kal" is just a coincidence.

"Sometimes, some things just fall in place and 'Cocktail' is second romantic comedy that we are doing together. Everything is just a coincidence. Our chemistry is something that is not tangible. Your either have it or don't...In love stories, it is very important, " she added.

Cocktail has promoted itself

Many feel that there is a similarity between "Love Aaj Kal" and forthcoming movie "Cocktail", but co-producer Dinesh Vijan denies it, saying that to ensure that the film has an individual identity, they opted for online medium to introduce it.

"We wanted the film to get its own identity and we went online in a big way. Our trailers went viral. The trailer caught on and the music has done well, which has worked in our favour and the film has promoted itself, " Vijan, who co-owns Illuminati Films with Saif Ali Khan, told.

Even though both films are love stories, they have nothing in common except for the team.

"Someone recommended that these days all the sequels are doing so well, so why don't you call it 'Love Aaj Kal 2', so you will get a big opening. But I feel that there is no similarity. The only way you can call 'Cocktail' a 'Love Aaj-Kal' is because it is an 'aaj kal ki love story'. Other than that there is nothing similar, " he told.

Imtiaz Ali directed "Love Aaj-kal" was a modern-day love story told through the relationship between Saif and Deepika Padukone. Director Homi Adajania roped in the same lead pair along with debutant Diana Penty for his triangular love saga "Cocktail".

Written by Imtiaz, the film, releasing Friday, also has Boman Irani and Dimple Kapadia.

"The team is same. But they have come together to tell a different story, " said Vijan.

Saif still perfect for love stories: Deepika

After working in movies like "Love Aaj Kal" and "Aarakshan", actress Deepika Padukone has once again teamed with Saif Ali Khan in "Cocktail". She feels the 41-year-old is one actor who fits romantic roles perfectly even after so many years in the film industry.

"In spite of him (Saif Ali Khan) having worked so much, he is still someone who fits these young love stories and romantic characters, " Deepika, 26, told.

"Cockatil", directed by Homi Adajania, revolves around the lives of three friends - Veronica, Gautam and Meera, played by Deepika, Saif and newcomer Diana Penty, respectively.

Deepika, who will be seen as a confident and fun-loving girl in the film, says the character was challenging and she needed inner confidence to play it.

"I remember I was in Mauritius two years ago when I got the script. I felt that I was ready to play Veronica. I knew I needed inner confidence to be able to pull it off because the character could go wrong in many ways, " she said.

Explaining the background of her character, she said: "Veronica is feisty, but not a rebel. She has grown up in a broken family, so she has not got the conventional love of parents while growing up. So she likes to be surrounded by people probably to get her mind off other things."

Deepika admires Rajinikanth

Deepika Padukone is working with Rajinikath for the first time in "Kochadaiyaan", but says she admires Tamil superstar's child like enthusiasm and never felt any pressure while working with him.

"I might feel pressure before, but when I walk on the sets and the camera starts rolling, I switch off everything and play the character that I have to. That's how I did 'Om Shanti Om' as well, " she told.

The actress is, however, impressed by the enthusiasm of the superstar.

"He is a child in a candy shop. I have never seen an actor more excited than him on the sets. He comes on set like with full energy. He greets everyone and he treats his daughter like a director.

Even if the director has said the shot is okay, he wants to keep perfecting it all the time. He and Amitji (Amitabh Bachchan) are the two actors that I have come across, who are so excited, you can see the passion in their eyes, " she said.

Apart from being a 3D film, "Kochadaiyaan" has been shot with new technique called - performance capturing.

Giving an insight into the format, Deepika said that is has been used abroad in films like "Tin Tin" and added: "It is called performance capturing where the actors are not required to shoot for an entire scene. Basically the expression and various emotions of the actor are captured and everything else is done digitally. It is almost like animation meets reality."

"It is an interesting technique. We only have to do scenes where there is physical contact or when there are emotional scenes. It was very new for me. I started understanding it after I finished doing it.

"It is a very complex process where emotions of an actor are captured separately and then with the help of digital platform and post-production, they create these characters and make it look real, " she added.

With a heady mix of friendship, love, oodles of trendsetting fashion statements, and topped with a soundtrack of chartbusters like "Tum hi ho bandhu" and "Daaru desi", the film has a great buzz among youngsters ahead of its release Friday.

Directed by "Being Cyrus" director Homi Adajania, "Cocktail" features actors Saif Ali Khan, Deepika Padukone and newcomer Diana Penty, in lead roles.

Co-produced by Saif Ali Khan and Dinesh Vijan of Illuminati films, the story is centred around Gautam (Saif), Meera (Diana) and Veronica (Deepika).

Gautam is an incorrigible flirt, while Meera, a pretty girl who wears Indian clothes and exudes Indian values, comes to London from Delhi for a fresh start, and Veronica is a party animal.

As three people living together, they all have a blast - until love happens!

The perfect friendship turns confusing, and love becomes complicated.

Adajania says Imran Khan was his first choice for the film.

"Saif was not the first choice. Imran was supposed to do it but he was not sure if he wanted to do it at that point of a time, " Adajania told.

Actors Dimple Kapadia and Boman Irani feature in supporting roles.

Explaining their presence in the cast, he said: "Dimple and Boman are also there in the film and it is not like they were in 'Being Cyrus' so are part of this film as well. It is not a matter of familiarity but using talented actors who fit the bill."

Actor Randeep Hooda will be seen in a cameo.

The film has already grabbed eyeballs for its ultra-modern styling by designer Anaita Shroff Adajania, and bagged a thumbs-up for its music, composed by Pritam Chakraborty.

Quirky song "Second hand jawaani", with Saif, Deepika and Diana grooving together, has also gained popularity among music lovers.

Designing for Cocktail was easy: Anaita Shroff

Chic designs, florescent colours and tribal prints dominate the wardrobes of the lead actors in "Cocktail", which is grabbing eyeballs for its characters that take fashion forward. Designer Anaita Shroff Adajania says making the ultra modish clothes was not that difficult.

The film is directed by Anaita's husabnd, Homi Adajania and it revolves around the lives of three friends - Veronica, Meera and Gautam - played by Deepika Padukone, Diana Penty and Saif Ali Khan respectively. "Cocktail" is releasing Friday.

"The characters were defined nicely by Homi. He was very clear on the characters and gave us a lot of information on the personalities of these characters. And having all that information, it was easy for us to understand how they would dress, " Anaita told.

Talking about the characters, the designer describes Veronica as the most fashionable in the film, while Meera is a shy person.

"Veronica is a very fashion forward person. She loves fashion and is happy to flaunt her body. It was like mixing high street fashion with luxury designer labels as somebody like her would do, " she said.

"While Meera is a simple girl who came from Delhi to London. she comes in her Indian clothes but slowly adapts to western clothes. She is not one to flaunt skin and is shy. So even in her western wear, the choice of clothing is conservative, " she added.

Anaita has previously designed for movies including "Dhoom 2", "Love Aajkal" and "Ra One", apart from styling for advertisements.

She says that designing for movies is "toughest" and added: "I enjoy every aspect of styling which I do, be it for Vogue (magazine) or advertising styling. The only taxing thing about films is time commitment. I hate being tied down to such long commitment. But I enjoy if the team is organised."

Indian body type not suited for a bikini: Deepika

Actress Deepika Padukone would be seen flaunting a bikini in her forthcoming film "Cocktail", but the actress feels that Indian body type is not naturally suited for the costume.

"I wish it was so easy and natural. I think the Indian body type is somehow not suited for a bikini. We as Indians have to work a little extra hard if we wish to carry it off," the 26-year-old said here Thursday while unveiling the Melange Cocktail fashion collection.

Talking about her regime for the bikini shot, she said, "I changed my workout slightly. Basically, I just had to sacrifice going out for dinners every time Dino (producer Dinesh Vijan) took the cast out for dinners. I would just sit in my room alone and ate steamed fish and not have any dessert."

But once the shoot was over, Deepika let herself loose.

"I remember being so disciplined that the day I finished the bikini shoot and I knew I could start eating normally. He (Vijan) took me out for dinner and I had this big chocolate dessert. Food and desserts, I think the restaurant ran out of food," said Deepika humorously.

The film also stars Saif Ali Khan and model Diana Penty and hits theatres July 13.

Wacky, quirky and full of double entendre, Bollywood songs are going irreverent with a vengeance. If "Bhaag D.K. Bose" was a shocker, what about recent numbers like "I am a hunter", "Madam malai" and "Womaniya". Their lyrics are sometimes senseless, sometimes outrageous and sometimes offensive too, but youth, at least, aren't complaining. 


Old timers like Javed Akhtar and Amitabh Bachchan have often expressed their disappointment with the growing popularity of songs with in-the-face, explicit lyrics.

Amitabh, whose father Harivansh Rai Bachchan was a renowned poet, wrote on his blog: "Lyrics and poetry do not dwell much on the unknowns of the hemisphere. They now wonder quite amusingly 'ki choli ke peeche kya hai' or ask fervently for 'DK Bose to run' and at times tell 'Bachchan to Bol'."

"There is keen interest now in 'Sheila's jawani' or the pelvic thrusts of 'silky smooth Chameli' informing all of the 'pauaa shot of intoxicant she has just consumed'," he added, referring to some recent numbers.

Here's a sample of latest hits across genres, including the cheesy "Teri shirt da button", which have caught the fancy of listeners with their varied beats and lyrics: 

"I am a hunter" ("Gangs Of Wasseypur - Part I"): It doesn't get more double entendre than this! The words, "I am a hunter and she wants to see my gun, when I pull it out boy, the woman starts to run..." beat "Bhaag D.K.Bose" left, right and centre. With its foot-tapping calypso beats, the number is a hit, particularly amongst youngsters.



"Teri shirt da button" ("Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum"): "Tere shirt da main ta button soniya, baalon ka tera main clip ho gaya" -- an unusually funny, yet romantic number, is crooned by Sonu Nigam. There is nothing double meaning about this one, but its unique lyrics and melodious tune are drawing interest.




"Womaniya" ("Gangs Of Wasseypur - Part I"): With its folk flavour infused with new-age beats, "Womaniya" is a playful, pre-wedding celebratory song, where women advise the bride how to behave when the groom begins to get cosy. Needless to say, with lyrics like "Maange jo babuna prem nisaniya, bole jo thodi katiho kaniya" (When the husband asks for a token of love, bite his ears), it fits this list to the T.




"Dil garden garden" ("Kyaa Super Kool Hain Hum"): Extremely peppy and catchy, this number is 'super kool'! The song describes the excitement of being bitten by the love bug. 

Sung in male voices, the number's plus point is also its colourful picturisation, featuring comedy stars Riteish Deshmukh and Tusshar Kapoor. Female leads Sarah Jane Dias and Neha Sharma, along with a pug dog, also add to the song, the video of which has a very retro feel.




"Madam malai" ("Daal Mein Kuch Kaala Hai"): "Meri kamar hai jaise Jaipuri suraahi, main hoon Madam malai" -- Pakistani actress Veena Malik gets a cheesy item number with this song. The number doesn't score too much on the choreography scale, but those who have loved the beats of "Jalebi bai" and "Shake it saiyaan" would perhaps lend an ear even to this song.




"Aa re pritam pyaare" ("Rowdy Rathore"): Fast and energetic, "Aa re pritam pyaare" is a Bollywood dance enthusiast's delight. With lyrics like "Pallu ke neeche chhupa ke rakha hai, utha dun toh hungama ho...", it is definitely bold. Its powerhouse dance moves and crowd-laden picturisation also contribute to the recall value of the song.

"Second hand jawaani" ("Cocktail"): The title itself suggests the quirkiness of the song. With Diana Penty, Deepika Padukone and Saif Ali Khan grooving to it in a conversational way, the number has catchy lines like "Bhanwaron ke college ka main professon hu baby, aiyyashi ke computer ka processor hu baby".

Deepika Padukone talks about her bold new role in 'Cocktail' and discovering friendship after love

Being unabashed is not really a quality one can associate with the normally sober and calm Deepika Padukone. But the actress is pulling it off in her next film. “Unlike my character Veronica, I have had a very secure, stable and very simple upbringing and in that sense it was difficult to identify with the character. But strangely I slipped into the character very easily, ” she says.

And while talking about a film that explores the nuances of friendship, the conversation naturally veers towards her circle of close friends. Dippy gets candid about making genuine buddies and finally becoming friends with old flame Ranbir Kapoor...

Your new film is based on relationships and friendship. What is your take on friendship?
Friendship is the base of the film and how three completely different individuals Veronica, Gautam and Meera manage to live under one roof. I have four best friends in my life who are my school friends.Obviously they are all scattered all over now but we all have those close friends whom we count on.

Thankfully for me, I have found friends in the industry as well and I am glad that I have found these people in my life although initially they were purely professional. I suppose, the older I get in to the profession I am in; it would be more and more difficult for me to make genuine friends.

Speaking about relationships, how easy or difficult is it to fall in love?
I guess when it happens to you, you don’t even realise that it is happening to you. I guess every romance or every relationship begins with friendship so it’s the key. I guess everyone should start off as friends and not jump to the next level immediately. Then the relationship will last much longer.

Coming to your other film helmed by Abbas-Mustan, there has been a lot of controversy around it...
It is not something that I would like to revisit as there has been a lot of back and forth on who said what. The only thing I can say is that I am doing the film and I have finished a large part of it, which I thoroughly enjoyed.

You are doing Rohit Shetty’s Chennai Express with SRK...
Am I? (Laughs) I would love to!

You are also doing a film with Ranbir now. Is it awkward shooting with him, given the history behind?
Not at all. You know there is a friendship that we developed putting aside what we went through. We discovered the friendship, which did not exist even when we were in a relationship and that’s what I value the most. He is a fantastic co-star, very spontaneous and someone I admire when it comes to acting.

Saif and Deepika's no-show

The 'Cocktail' stars pull out of TV reality show 'Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa' at the last minute 


Saif Ali Khan did a last-minute no show on the sets of Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa yesterday. The actor along with Deepika Padukone was scheduled to promote their forthcoming film on the reality show.

As he decided to skip the shoot, Deepika, too, decided likewise. Saif, who had been away in Turkey and England, due to his film and other commitments returned to Mumbai early yesterday. 

Says a source, “Around 11 am he called to say that he was on his way to Filmistan Studios in Goregoan but was feeling indisposed. He stated that he was suffering from a bout of food poisoning and would be unable to shoot. 

He told them he was turning back and heading home.” Adds the source, “As soon as Deepika realised that Saif would not be present, she claimed that she was also on her way but as her co-star would not be there, she too was going back.”


The heavy downpour in the city yesterday had delayed the shoot and later it resumed with judges Madhuri Dixit, Karan Johar and Remo Fernandes shooting without their celebrity guests.


Adds the source, “The offer to be on the show was mutual. Saif was keen to promote his film and the channel wanted him as a star guest. A rescheduled shoot has also been ruled out.”

The latest song released in 'Cocktail' movie by Saif Ali Khan is sheer cheating with music lovers. The Director, Homi Adajania has unabnashedly signed Arif Lohar, who is the son of late Alam Lohar of Pakistan, to sing this popular folk song.

Arif became popular with this song after he was featured by Coke Studio Pakistan, a popular TV programme where upcoming singers are given the opportunity to showcase their talent.

This song is already poular with the music lovers, especially in North India. The extended version of this song has been sung by Arif Lohar in wedding parties in India. He charges phenomenol amount for these functions and his graph is bound to go up after the release of this movie.

But the fact that the music director in Pritam's repute who enjoys huge goodwill didn't even care to change the lyrics of the song elevates to ruthless legalized plagiarism.

It is pertinent to mention here that "Angreji Beat" (Punjabi song) sung by Gippy Grewal featuring Yo Yo Honey Singh, originally from Honey Singh's International Villager's released in November 2011, will also be used in the film.

Saif Ali Khan's Cocktail is all set to releases yet another music video Jugni, which is a flipside of all the peppy and happening videos released so far.

Arif Lohar and Harshdeep Kaur have lent their voices for Jugni. The song is a traditional Punjabi track with western music.

I remember messaging him (Prakash Jha) to please give me a good romantic song in his new film because Prakashji has a really good sense of music. I was really looking forward to shooting this song and it's turned out amazing. Till now, Mora piya was always played on loop on my mp3 player wherever I was travelling. But now its 'Seedhe point pe aaona', which is such a playful and cute romantic song."

The song features Deepika opposite actor Saif Ali Khan. Just like the Ranbir-Kat chemistry, there is a lot of buzz about Deepika-Saif's camaraderie, which was visible in their earlier film 'Love Aaj Kal'. Deepika Padukone honored with the title of tattoo queen

Bollywood diva Deepika Padukone has been honored with the title oftattoo queen by the organizers of the first ever Tattoo Convention in India.

Deepika has a tattoo of the initials of her ex beau Ranbir and another tattoo of an anklet.

After watching the 25 year old actress grooving in the remixed version of the popular song Dum Maaro Dum, the IndiaInk Invention contacted Deepika and approached her to visit their first convention, which was scheduled on 10th April.

But unfortunately she could not be a part of the convention as she was busy shooting in London for her upcoming film Desi Boyz.

The convention’s organiser Manoj Thakur, Partner at Par Excellence Entertainment stated “Deepika’s absence was felt, especially at an event that she would have readily identified with. With her own much-written about RK tattoo at the base of her neck and the cutting-edge Dum Maaro Dum tattoo she’s seen sporting in the movie, she would have been the perfect ambassador for this tattoo expo.”

As she could not attend the event, she forwarded the invitation to her Dum Maaro Dum team. The convention was instead attended by Abhishek Bachchan, Prateik and Rohan Sippy.

At the convention, the cast of the film also launched a special Dum Maaro Dumtattoo.
