Being an artist was in my destiny: Isha Sharvani

Being an artist was in my destiny: Isha Sharvani
I feel that God's been kind enough with me to allow me to get up every morning and do what I love doing, " says Isha

Currently seen in the reality show Jhalak Dikkhla Jaa on Colors, Isha talks to CS about dance.

My favourite dance form…
Well, if you take a child to a candy store and ask him to pick a favourite chocolate, he will be totally confused. It’s the same with me. I love dancing and have grown up in my parents’ dance institution in Kerala. It’s tough for me to pick out a particular form.

Greatest stage memory…
Two weeks back, I did a show in London, where I performed with my brother. We did a duet and there were six dancers with us. My father directed the show. It was a memorable occasion as we were together as a family.

First TV stint…
I am very happy with this show as it’s giving me an opportunity to reach out to many viewers across India and the world. Till now, I have only performed in metro cities and Tier-2 cities like Pune, Indore, etc. I hope that even people in the rural towns know me after this.

Taking it easy…
I would love to do a musical film with a lot of dances. When I look back at my career, I should be proud of whatever I have done. I like to do one thing at a time. Whatever I do, I like to give it my best.

I love to watch…
I like all forms of dance. As an art, dancing is reflective of the times. Kathak belongs to the Mughal era when ladies did most of the talking through their eyes, while Salsa/Tango come from a society where women are expressive about their sexuality. Enjoy it all, I say.

Favourite dancers…
I love Mallika Sarabhai’s Kuchipudi and Bharatnatyam. Birju Maharaj is also another legend I look upto. In Kathak, I will be partial, it’s my mom Daksha Seth.

TV new, exciting format for me: Isha Sharvani

Isha Sharvani has performed live on stage and in films, but television is an altogether new format for her, says the actress, currently a participant on dance reality show "Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5".

"TV is exciting. I have performed, done films, so I am more comfortable with cinema, which is a more intimate medium. Camera is so close that every eyebrow is important. TV is a very new format for me... it is shot in a very different way, " Isha told.

She has earlier been seen in films like "Kisna" and "Luck By Chance".

Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa is not a cake walk for Isha

Isha Sharvani's background as a trained dancer left many saying that her participation in "Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5" is unfair given the non-dancers on the show. But the actress says there are many dance forms she is not an expert at and her choreographer has to work hard to teach her new styles.

"He (Salman) is teaching me a lot! He is a good choreographer. He has landed up with a girl who is a classical dancer in a show with a format, which doesn't want classical dance. So I'm learning salsa, I am learning western contemporary dance and all these full on shaking shoulders and hips. All that is something I don't do so much, so he is having to work very hard with me," Isha told.

The 27-year-old is trained in traditional forms like Kalaripayattu, Chhau and Kathak. She may know the nuances of dance, but she refrains from dictating the terms during rehearsals.

"Salman is the choreographer - that's respectful. You can't do that with the choreographer," she said.

The actress, who impressed one and all with her dance in movies like "Kisna" and "Luck By Chance", belongs to a family deeply rooted in Indian art and culture. Her mother, Daksha Sheth, runs a dance gurukul, her father is a composer, and her brother is a percussionist.

While Isha was confident she wanted to participate in "Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5", her family was concerned, she said, adding: "They were very worried how I would fit in."

But all's good for now, considering the praise and applause she has been receiving on the show.

Ace choreographer Remo D'Souza has already claimed that no one does Mallakhamb better than Isha in India. But he admits the show poses a challenge to her.

"It's a big challenge for Isha. People think she is a fantastic dancer and she has a dance background. But she has a particular dance form which she is good at - not the other dance forms. She has to struggle to get those dance forms correct," Remo told.

On the film front, the actress will be seen in Bejoy Nambiar's "David", which will release towards the end of the year.

True to the "Shaitaan" director's style, it will be an "edgy" film, she added.

`I am single right now!` - Isha Sharvani comes clean on her romance with Zaheer Khan
Isha Sharwani sets the record straight about her alleged romance with cricketer Zaheer Khan

In an exclusive interview with us, Isha Sharwani sets the record straight about her alleged romance with cricketer Zaheer Khan

There have been a whole lot of rumours in the media about Isha Sharwani’s relationship status. While some have written tales about her steady relationship with Indian fast bowler Zaheer Khan, others have even reported on them buying their dream house together.

However, speaking exclusively to us, Isha sets the record straight. The dancer-actress says, “I am single right now. ”

Despite the several rumours about her and her alleged beau Zaheer, Isha says that she has chosen to stay mum on the matter. She points out, “I have never reacted to it in the past. I do not have any plans of getting married soon. That is all I want to say right now. ”

And despite recent reports claiming Zaheer is now in a relationship with another woman, Isha appears to be unfazed. Looks like she wants to stay focused on her career right now.

Currently busy with her dance reality show Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, she is also very excited about her interesting role in Bejoy Nambiar’s next film.
