Deepika Padukone Sponsors Indian Village

Not only is she a Bollywood babe but Deepika Padukone also has a big heart. The actress showed the world what a do-gooder she truly is when she recently adopted the small village Ambegaon in Maharashtra. Padukone sponsored the village through a Greenathon campaign and she did it during a crucial time as they are facing a major electricity crisis. Besides monetary support, the Bollywood beauty plans to pay visits to the village to check on the progress it makes over time. She told the press that she did plenty of research about Ambegaon before she made this decision.

It's great to see influential stars like Dips work toward bringing a positive change to rural India. We have seen Bollywood star Katrina Kaif do philanthropic work before and it's good to see another top actress take the same path. This is not the first time that an actress has adopted a village. Bollywood icon Shabana Azmi sponsors the village Mijwan in Uttar Pradesh. Her aspirations came from her late father Kafi Azmi who was the first to start supporting the village. Hopefully this will turn into a trend among the powerful members of the movie industry as they can truly make an impact on rural India, which makes up approximately eighty percent of the country.

As for Deepika she recently represented Bollywood at the Cannes Film Festival where she was a guest for Chivas Regal, one of the movie festival's partners. The Housefull actress also wowed the public with her beauty on the film festival's red carpet as well as with her attire designed by Rohit Bal. Aside from her next projects Padukone continues to model for top brands such as Sony. With all the prosperity she has in her life it's good to see her trying to bring some to the lives of others as well. Well done Dips!
