Maybe its Twitter's fault, but stars sure seem to be oversharing these days.We know their most intimate marital secrets, their health problems, their fertility problems, and how much money they made last year. What is impolite to discuss at the dinner table has become common celebrity Facebook fodder. In fact, it has gotten so bad that we've decided to count down the Top 5 topics that celebs might consider keeping to themselves, or sharing with therapists and/or clergy, instead of blasting out to their 742,489 Twitter fans, and hence, the world.
5. Fertility Issues
Everything from in vitro to miscarriage is now fair game for celebrities looking for some extra publicity. Following the birth of baby Blue Ivy Carter last week, Jay-Z released a sentimental song entitled "Glory" on his website that included details about Beyonce's previously-not-public, previous miscarriage. Selena Gomez was recently incredibly candid about her mother's miscarriage, even revealing the child's name -- on Twitter. And when reality television mom Michelle Duggar miscarried her 20th child, she went so far as to give an exclusive interview to People magazine.
4. Politics
Actors should act. Singers should sing. And Kardashians should do whatever it is they do. But celebrities rarely have enough knowledge to be qualified to talk politics with their fans. In Touch Weekly senior editor Dorothy Cascerceri worries that ill-informed celebs may actually help to sway undecided voters with their opinions. "Because celebs have an elevated platform their opinions are interpreted as facts in many people's minds," Cascerceri tells Fox411. "People who haven't made up their mind about which candidate they are voting for will choose the candidate their favorite celeb is endorsing whether they know a lot or a little about the issues." Yikes.
3. Money
Famous people make more money than regular people. That is a well-known fact. But they don't need to rub our faces in it. In his Vanity Fair cover story last year Johnny Depp lamented all the stupid money he has been paid for making the "Pirates of the Caribean" franchise. "Basically, if they're going to pay me the stupid money right now, I'm going to take it," Depp said. Since Depp lives in France he may not know about the millions of Americans currently out of work. Personal finance expert Manisha Thakor says celebs should only talk about money if they have something constructive to say -- not just to spew out that they make lots of it. "It would be very powerful for a celeb to say something along the lines of 'I made $20 million this year, and I donated 10 percent or $2 million of that to charity because I'm very blessed to be in this position and I want to give back to the people who helped put me here'," she said. "And/or 'While I'm making a lot of money right now I know life is uncertain so I always save at least 20 percent of my income to ensure I'm living within my means and never carry a balance on my credit cards.'" If celebs talked about how much they make in this sort of way... it could actually have a really positive effect by making financial responsibility (at all income levels) more of an aspirational state."
2. How They Stay Skinny
Super skinny female celebrities love to tell us how much gross food they eat. In magazine interviews they are almost always diving into a cheesy, fatty burger, a plate of french fries and talking about how they have such a fast metabolism. Yeah right. "I don't turn to stars for secrets to the perfect body. Whatever their formula is probably involves a staff of 12 and a 24/7 obsession with how their body looks," says Yahoo Shine editor Piper Weiss. "I find it particularly red flag-worthy when a celebrity breaks down the calorie-rich meal she had to prove she can eat whatever she wants. Gorging on junk food doesn't prove you have a healthy relationship with food."
1. Gastrointestinal Issues
There is rarely a moment when bowel movements make for good conversation. Apparently no one told Miley Cyrus this since she once tweeted: "let one stanky thing looooosee!!! Ewwwww vegan poopy nasstyy." Oprah did a whole show about how what goes in comes out with Dr. Oz. It's a little better (but not much) that Jamie Lee Curtis is paid to discuss her newfound regularity as a spokeswoman for Activia, but at the end of the day, we wish we didn't know these stars inside and out.
